Bears sign 2 draft picks
The Bears signed defensive end Mark Anderson and guard Tyler Reed, two of their seven selections from the 2006 draft.
Each player signed four-year deals.
Anderson was drafted in the fifth round (159th overall) out of Alabama. Reed was chosen in the sixth round (200th overall) out of Penn State. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Anderson and Reed are the third and fourth players from this year's NFL draft class to sign overall.
The Bears also waived cornerback Ricky Williams. Williams was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Bethune-Cookman signed by the Bears on May 23. |
QB dancing like the stars
Rex Grossman is more of a pocket passer than a scrambler, but he did some nifty dancing Wednesday when the issue of Thomas Jones and Lance Briggs missing voluntary workouts arose.
On the one hand, Grossman said: "It's voluntary, but we're supposed to be here. This is our job." On the other, he said: "It's not a situation of them being lazy. They're doing what they think is best for themselves."
Is it best for the Bears, though? "No," Grossman said. "But we don't live in a perfect world." Pressed if their decisions is affecting team morale, Grossman danced again.
"Not at this point," he said. "Thomas Jones is a warrior. He has been in our huddle. He's a leader of this offense. … It's June. It's a little too early to say it's hurting morale. We have, like, 100 guys out here." |
